If you are looking for an ant exterminator or termite extermination, before you do anything, make sure that your house is clean. In other words, make sure that there are no random food particles lying around your house. After all, the reason you have or will have ants in the first place is because they want something to eat. No free feed. No ants! Regardless, it’s easier said than done to make sure that everything is cleared up, which is why, despite our best efforts, they can give us a visit. Although there are many ant extermination methods out there, here is a general rundown of what you can do to get rid of ants.

Natural Ant Exterminator

One often mentioned method for ant extermination is using a solution of borax, which you can find at your local drugstore and sugar. Simply make a mix of 50% borax and 50% sugar and feed them to the ants. If you know where they’ve been crawling around, leave the mixture for them to pick up. If they don’t take it, try adding more sugar into the mix to make it sweeter. Because different types of ants have different tastes you may have to play around with how much borax and sugar you use.

Try using baby powder. Ants hate this stuff because its takes away their ability to smell. If you use this on ants inside your house they’ll get lost and die because they can’t sniff their way back into the ant nest. If you use this on ants outside your house, it will prevent them from coming inside. You can also try using vinegar because it works the same way as baby power, by cutting off the ants ability to smell. Essentially, what you are doing with baby powder and/or vinegar is making them blind.

Aside from using the oft-used baby power and vinegar, cinnamon, peppermint, ivory soap, pepper, red chili powder paste, bay leaves, and white chalk work as well. Diatomaceous earth is a popular substance for eliminating ants because it dehydrates the ants and kills them. You can get this substance online or at your local pool store. When using diatomaceous earth, however, make sure that your dog and/or cat don’t sniff it. Despite this fact, diatomaceous earth, because it is not dangerous unless taken in large quantities, is often use to get rid of fleas on pets and other insects, such as cockroaches, around the house.

Fire Ant Extermination

If you are looking to get rid of this common pest, aside from using the aforementioned exterminators ants methods, there are products out there, which have shown to be highly effective in specifically getting rid of fire ants. These products include Maxforce and others, which you can find if you search for “fire ants” on sites such as Amazon. Of course, you can also hire an ant exterminator company. You can easily find local ant exterminators in your area by going to the “Pest Control” section of your local business directory. You can also try going to Yellowpages.com. A fire ants exterminator will not be cheap. The big national brands usually charge a couple of hundred dollars for a treatment. They’ll also try to sign you up for a long-term deal so that they can get rid of your ants, albeit for a pretty penny. If your ant problem is not too big or is infrequent, it is probably best that you skip the ant exterminator cost that you’ll get by hiring a professional.

Carpenter Ant Extermination

Aside from the natural/organic and dirt cheap methods mentioned above, to get rid of specifically carpenter ants it may be best to hire a professional. Keep in mind that a carpenter ant exterminator is not cheap and is not 100% guaranteed to work

Commercial Exterminators Ants

If you search for “ants” in the home & garden section of Amazon you’ll see a bunch of products, which kill off ants very quickly. Although these products do contain chemicals, they are perfectly safe. By far the most popular retail ant killer product is Terro, which has really good reviews on Amazon. The Terro ant exterminator price is also not much at all, setting you back just $5. It is incredibly effective not only because it contains the aforementioned borax I discussed earlier, but because it is a bait. Meaning that the ants who come into contact with Terro will kill of the queen of the colony. And once the queen is dead, so is everyone else.

great idea and the pics showed exactly the ant carrying the sugar with boric acid to the colony. Great Idea, does it work outside? In flower gardens?
